· Isothermal or non-isothermal flow

· Steady-state or transient flow

Setup and analysis of a problem:

Pre-processing:

· Drawing of the geometry.

· Specification of problem physics and boundary conditions.

· Grid generation.

· Choice of control parameters for the calculation process.

Calculation

· The user may change, during the calculation, some parameters for the monitoring of the iterative process.

Post-processing:

· Representation of streamlines.

· Vectorial representation of the velocity field.

· Representation of colour-shaded and line contours.

· Data generation for graphical x-y representations.

· Statistical data for the domain and boundary regions.

Although EasyCFD is a simple software, mainly oriented for didactic or educational purposes, it may become a valuable tool for a first analysis in practical situations.

EasyCFD is based in a user-friendly graphical interface, allowing the user to easily draw the geometry, impose boundary conditions, control calculation parameters (subrelaxation coefficients, advection schemes, multigrid resolution, etc) and post-process the results.

Book Description:

Turbomachines are those in which energy is transferred to or from a continuously moving fluid by the motion of a rotating element. Some of the most common and important machines used in engineering and industry fall into this category, including those which absorb power (and thereby increase fluid pressure), such as fans, compressors and pumps. Also included are equally vital varieties of machines which generate power from the expansion of fluids to lower pressures such as hydraulic, steam and gas turbines.

This general definition embraces a number of devices that are classified as ‘open’, such as propellers, windmills and unshrouded fans. The machines examined here are those defined as ‘closed’, where a finite quantity of fluid can be considered to pass through the machine in unit time, for it is these which are of the most interest to students and professionals in the fields of mechanical, chemical, and plant engineering. It is in these areas that the devices that form the subject matter of this book find their most important applications, making this treatment of vital importance to anyone working in or studying them.

Example questions and answers throughout
Includes more new material on axial flow compressors and pumps

Heat Conduction: Mathematical Models and Analytical Solutions

Book Description:

Many phenomena in social, natural and engineering fields are governed by wave, potential, parabolic heat-conduction, hyperbolic heat-conduction and dual-phase-lagging heat-conduction equations. These equations are not only appropriate for describing heat conduction at various scales, but also the most important mathematical equations in physics. The focus of the present monograph is on these equations: their solution structures, methods of finding their solutions under various supplementary conditions, as well as the physical implication and applications of their solutions.

Therefore, the present monograph can serve as a reference for researchers working on heat conduction of macro- and micro-scales as well as on mathematical methods of physics. It can also serve as a text for graduate courses on heat conduction or on mathematical equations in physics.

engineering ebook Robust Control Design With Matlab

Book Description

Robustness is often of crucial importance in control system design. Real engineering systems are vulnerable to external disturbance and measurement noise and there are always discrepancies between mathematical models used for design and the actual system in practice.

Robust Control Design with MATLAB® helps you learn how to use well-developed advanced robust control design methods in practical cases. To this end, several realistic control design examples ranging from teaching-laboratory experiments, such as a mass–damper–spring assembly, to complex systems like a flexible link manipulator are given detailed presentation. All the design exercises are conducted using MATLAB® Robust Control Toolbox, Control System Toolbox and Simulink®.

By sharing their experiences in industrial cases with minimum recourse to complicated theories and formulae, the authors convey essential ideas and useful insights into robust industrial control systems design using major H-infinity optimization and related methods allowing you quickly to move on with your own challenges

This is a lively textbook for an introductory course in numerical methods, MATLAB, and technical computing, with an emphasis on the informed use of mathematical software. The presentation helps readers learn enough about the mathematical functions in MATLAB to use them correctly, appreciate their limitations, and modify them appropriately. The book makes extensive use of computer graphics, including interactive graphical expositions of numerical algorithms. It provides more than 70 M-files, which can be downloaded from the text Web site www.mathworks.com/moler. Many of the numerous exercises involve modifying and extending these programs. The topics covered include an introduction to MATLAB; linear equations; interpolation; zeros and roots; least squares; quadrature; ordinary differential equations; Fourier analysis; random numbers; eigenvalues and singular values; and partial differential equations. Motivating applications include modern problems from cryptography, touch-tone dialing, Google page-ranking, atmospheric science and image processing, as well as classical problems from physics and engineering.

Computational Fluid Mechanics

Academic Press | 1996-04 | ISBN: 0125530102 | 467 pages | Djvu | 2,4 MB

Computational fluid dynamics now plays a vital role in all branches of fundamental and applied mechanics, in research as well as industry. Now available in paperback, this handbook provides graduate students, scientists, and engineers a well-documented critical survey of numerical methods for fluid mechanics. A state-of-the-art description of computational fluid dynamics is given, taking into account the simultaneous rapid development of numerical analysis, computer technology, and visualization tools. This is done while pointing out the basic foundations that have made possible the extraordinary spread of the discipline; some important theoretical results are also given. The seven chapters of the book are invaluable tools with which to gain a deeper appreciation of the problems associated with the calculation of fluid motion in various situations: inviscid and viscous, incompressible and compressible, steady and unsteady, laminar and turbulent flows, as well as simple and complex geometries. Finally, each chapter is accompanied by a large but carefully selected bibliography.

* Divided into seven chapters covering the main topics of computational fluid mechanics
* A large but carefully selected bibliography follows each chapt

Numerical simulation on supercavitation and yawing of a supersonic projectile traveling in water

Abstract. A supersonic projectile traveling in the water causes a supercavitation
phenomenon around the projectile. In order to clarify the effect of the initial
conditions of the projectile and the water on the behavior of the projectile, parametric
surveyed numerical simulations are performed by using a two-dimensional
hydrocode. It can be thought that the diaphragm distortion confining the water
affects significantly the behavior of the traveling underwater projectile. In
fact, the effects of the penetrating angle and the velocity of the projectile on its
postures and trajectory are significant.
